At first, I was simply translating part of the first chapter. However, this novel is pretty cute and thus, I’ve decided to translate it ^.^

Do note that I am using the 91babymama chinese version and the Viet published book. Thus, the translated parts are arranged according to the actual chapters in the  published book. The person who uploaded on 91babymama split chapter one into three parts. Because of my sluggish speed, I’m splitting the chapter into six parts.

Book 1: Pre-marital Fight Encounter

Chapter 1.1.1: An Hapless “Cottage”(Less Quality) Woman

Xiao Qing is siting at the airport terminal, her father is going through the formalities of filling out the paper work, [and] her mother is sitting beside her with a serious face.

August’s weather is unbearably hot, but inside the airport lounge was extremely cool and refreshing. The coolness made her sneeze three times, along with mom’s constant cold face, cause Xiao Qing to feel her hairs on her body collectively dancing a carnival dance.

Another burst of cold wind blew from the air conditioning, [thus] Xiao Qing could not help but lowered her head and gently rubbed her face with her arm.

The woman sitting next to her [Xiao Qing] was as before sitting upright and still. She was treating the lounge like a meeting room, and Xiao Qing saw a small coat laying on her hand. Xiao Qing’s face suddenly broke into a smile, “Mom, can you let me wear the jacket, it’s a waste since you are not wearing it. ”

Yue Ling tilted her head to look her daughter; the hands of a small cold face slipped her jacket off from her hands and gave it to Xiao Qing while adding to that a supercilious gaze.

When Xiao Qing was a small, Yue Ling’s gaze was still very lethal. Every time mom stares, Xiao Qing has gotten scared so much that she wanted to hide. If there was a table then hid under the table. If there was no table, then hide behind the sofa. If sometimes there are no objects at the moment then she will immediately hug grandfather’s thighs while looking tearfully at her mom.

From Xiao Qing’s memories, Yue Ling’s gaze was already sharp. The woman that would occasionally visit grandparents’ home to see her was like the Snow Queen from fairytale. One glance from her could cause “a thousand mountain birds to become extinct. Every time she glanced at her [Xiao Qing], Xiao Qing felt her whole body “whoosh” and emit cold air. She reflexively wanted to “escape body.” Neighborhood children would sing loudly, “On Earth mother is the best, children that do not have mothers are like blades of grass.” Yet, for Xiao Qing she would hope that mom don’t come see me, thousand times don’t come see me ah~

Later, when she got older, Xiao Qing finally understood that her mother is a cold nature person. She rarely gave Xiao Qing a call, never go to the kitchen to cook Xiao Qing a meal, and do not have a motherly heart-to-heart conversations with Xiao Qing. From childhood to when she was older, there were just very few times of contact with her. Even Xiao Qing came to suspect whether her mom picked her up from the roadside.

Later on she gradually discovered that it was not that she did not care about her daughter, but her way of care was quite special.

For example, for Xiao Qing’s birthday, she will give money; holidays, she will give red envelopes; each time a school opens, she will remit an amount of money for Xiao Qing to purchase school supplies. Originally, Xiao Qing would always complain: how come she only remembers about renminbi/yuan (China’s currency)? Later on Xiao Qing learned that her mother had adequate reasons for doing that.

In regards to process, sending money eliminated trifling steps such as “having to think what is a good present to send”, “after thinking has to go buy it”, “after purchase have to package it ” and “after wrapping has to deliver it quickly.”

In regards to efficiency, you only need half a minute to send money, and transfer it to online bank; efficient and convenient.

As for results, sending money allows the daughter to understand three things: first, my mother remembers my birthday thus she gives me money; the second is that I can use the money to buy my favorite things (pencils, etc.); third, money is not everything, but no money is totally unacceptable as you cannot do much without it.

These three things were heard by her later on from her father’s mouth. Xiao Qing cannot help but laughed when she heard them to the point of spitting out half her glass of water. This mother is really quite a character, and Xiao Qing’s most favorite personality. Since then, her impression of mom has completely changed. Can even say that there is a bit of affection. While her mother’s disposition is different from the traditional mom’s gentle character described as “warm, caring mother’s hand points as wearing the clothes I’ve sewn for you”, the essence is the same. They are concerned about their children and hoped their children will have a better life. It’s just the kind of non-verbal or action-based concern of mom is a bit “awkward”.

Although as a child she would complain about mom, now that she has to depart from her mom, Xiao Qing’s heart is very reluctant to part with. Not seeing her solemn face and cold eyes, when sleeping will not feel the cold air ah …
